Fish Weights Made Simple: oz, lbs, and kg Conversion

Not sure how much fish to order? Here's a quick, simple guide to help you convert between ounces, pounds, and kilograms — so you know exactly what you're getting.

Ounces to Pounds: 8 oz = 0.5 lb, 16 oz = 1 lb, 24 oz = 1.5 lb, 32 oz = 2 lb.

Pounds to Kilograms: 0.5 lb ≈ 0.23 kg, 1 lb ≈ 0.45 kg, 2 lb ≈ 0.91 kg, 5 lb ≈ 2.27 kg.

Quick Rule of Thumb: 1 lb is roughly the size of a standard salmon fillet portion for one hearty meal, or two lighter portions. 0.5 lb (8 oz) is a good single-serving size for most fish. For a family of 4, plan on roughly 1.5–2 lbs total, depending on the fish and how it's prepared.

Why this matters when ordering: Knowing roughly how much you need helps avoid over- or under-ordering — whether you're cooking for one or hosting a dinner. If you're ever unsure, just ask us at the counter (or in your order notes online) and we're happy to help you figure out the right amount.
